We do this by providing tools and collaborating with communities as key advocates to prepare pathways for their socio-economic independence.
 
About Hello World Project
As part of our work, we are implementing a Project dubbed Hello World for which we seek to fill some vacant positions. Project Hello World provides educational resources and Internet connectivity to isolated and vulnerable communities. We do this by building solar-powered, outdoor Internet kiosks— so that underprivileged children and adults can educate themselves, communicate with others, and have a voice in the global community. We do this by mobilizing communities to build Hello Hubs, solar-powered outdoor Internet kiosks, and state-of-the-art technology including high-quality solar panels, satellite connectivity, rugged, waterproof touch-screen screens, camera, and audio equipment. Hello Hubs are designed to withstand extreme outdoor weather and are energy-autonomous, which means that they can bring connectivity and education to even the most isolated communities.
 
Job Summary  The Associate Engineer – Maintenance will be responsible for the maintenance of all the hubs across the country while ensuring periodic diagnoses of all systems are carried out and maintenance schedules prepared in advance to minimize breakages. The Associate Engineer-Maintenance will manage and coordinate support from ISP at the hubs and play a crucial role in training Community Support Officers on the best maintenance practices for hub components. The Associate Engineer will work closely with the Lead Engineer to manage operations and procurement hubs components.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Maintenance
Gather feedback on breakages from the CSOs and log these for repair.
Coordinate repair needs and budgets with the tech lead.
Ensure uptime with the support from ISP at the hubs Support the tech lead in operations and procurement Regular diagnostics of all systems and preparing maintenance schedules to minimize breakages
Community Engagement & Hub Builds
Maintaining hub communication with CSOs to assist in maintenance and troubleshooting Work with the community and Uganda team to build hello hubs across the country.
Training and Teaching
Training community support officers, community and in-house team on best maintenance practices for the hub components
Prepare troubleshooting manuals for the field team
Reporting
Prepare regular reports for the team.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the related field. Required
Two or more years of related work experience
Great hands-on experience with electrical work particularly solar energy
Experience with civil works
Experience with community work
Excellence in technical and non-technical communication.
Is friendly, confident, and patient with others.
Experience with qualitative research and experiment design.
Keen to find lasting fixes to things that are broken
