About UNDP
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the programmes and activities of the United Nations System.
Job Summary  Under the overall guidance and supervision by the Local Security Associate LSA/Field Security Associate FSA, the Radio Operator shall assist in preparing daily reports, performing as a shift operator day/evening/night, monitoring the movements of UN vehicles and communicating and receiving messages through VHF, HF, e-mail and telephones with the UN offices/personnel within the duty stations of Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Manage an efficient emergency coordination center;
Operate VHF & HF radios, sat phones and maintain daily radio and operations log book;
Conduct radio checks as requested by the UN security operations;
Act quickly in the event of an emergency and contact relevant authorities to contain and help solve critical incidents;
Coordinates and follows up with QRF for incident occurrences;
Obtain security clearance for trips to and from UN operational areas country wide;
Record and track UN vehicles and staff movements during missions;
Periodically check and maintain an updated list of important contacts, agency contacts, SMT, OMT, Warden list and contacts etc;
Prepare and maintain updated UN information boards;
Maintain a detailed incident logbook for the daily security reports;
Gather, compile and forward to the Security Officers and LSAs security information for regular reports;




Keep stock of radio room equipment;
Report all faults relating to the efficient functioning of the Radio room;
Receive and place incoming and outgoing telephone calls and faxes;
Keep a register of office phone utilization;
Prepare and conduct emergency telecommunications briefing for new staff;
Be flexible to replace colleagues while on leave within and outside duty station;
Perform any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant for the United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS Radio Operator job should have completed both “O” and “A” level. Requirement.
Two years of experience in telex, facsimile and radio operations as well as a certificate in Radio Communications.
Language Requirements Fluency in English. Knowledge of local language will be an advantage.
