We provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition to people of concern and the local communities.
Job Summary  The Logistics Manager will be responsible for defining and implementing countrywide logistics strategies in the areas of fleet, medicine management, warehouse and inventory management, and asset management in accordance with Medical Teams and donor policies and regulations. The Logistics Manager will oversee the warehouses, inventory control, material handling, fleet and fuel, transportation and other logistics activities. They are accountable for the hiring and ongoing development of logistics employees. The post holder will prepare worker schedules and ensure warehousing and distribution workers follow safety rules. The manager prepares reports for senior management; negotiates shipping and supplier costs and works to improve the efficiency and accountability of the supply chain.
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Responsible for directing and monitoring the implementation of country logistics activities including stock and supply of medical and non-medical materials, transport, fleet, equipment and ensuring compliance with Medical Teams and donor policies and procedures
Ensure proper setup and management of warehouses at Kampala and regional level in conjunction with Program Manager and other stakeholders
Responsible for oversight of effective fleet management with the Uganda country office, including fleet safety, vehicle monitoring, fuel tracking and associated systems
Responsible for managing the budget of the Logistics Department and for the appropriate use of materials and assets in accordance with budget holder authority
Responsible for the management of importation and associated customs clearance procedures for items procured or donation for the Uganda program.
Ensure integration of logistics functions with other departments to promote strong coordination in support of health programming activities, including infrastructure construction and medicine management.
Implement strategies to use Unit 4 ERP system for maximum effectiveness of logistics resources and ensure data integrity; ensure logistics staff are trained in using system according to MTI procedures
Work with Senior Management Team to improve operational systems, processes and policies to support information flow, business processes and organizational planning
Provide key information necessary for decision making to Country Director and Vision Team related to Logistics
As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute to developing organizational objectives and change management strategies
Work closely with Global Logistics focal point and other team members through regular, action-based meetings and provide into the regular updating of the Global Operations Assessment Tool
Lead on the development and implementation of Logistics quality assurance systems
Monitor performance against targets and deliverables for all contracts, including performance of sub- contracting partners. Responsible for ensuring Logistics department is adequately staffed and employees are trained and competent to perform tasks
Participate in writing expressions of interest, project proposals, developing budgets and project performance analysis reports, and leading on procurement planning
Analyze logistics data and reports; develop final reports for submission to management
Represent Medical Teams to stakeholders at all levels on activities related to logistics
Ensure applications for tax exemption and asset acquisition processes related to URA are submitted in a timely manner
Ensure direct reports have clear objectives, receive mentorship, and participate in capacity building opportunities
Conduct performance evaluations and enforce disciplinary procedures as per policy
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field is required; Masters Degree is preferred
Eight years of progressive experience in operational/logistics management, of which at least 2 years in an international organization setting
Experience with institutional donors UN, USAID, etc. is an added advantage
Experience in managing medical supply chain operations
Experience in management of vehicle fleet in an NGO context
In-depth knowledge of global supply chain management including clearance, transport, warehousing and inventory management, distribution of non-food items, fleet management, customs clearance and asset management
In-depth knowledge of ERP systems
Knowledge of fleet management tracking systems.
Highly skilled at using ERP systems to manage assets and inventory
Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
Skilled in managing a budget
Highly skilled in developing leaders and managing a team
Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Skilled at designing and rolling out policies and procedures
A good command of both written and spoken English
Ability to act with integrity and ensure the appropriate use of assets
Proactive with a keen desire to improve systems
Keen interest to mentor others
Highly organized with good quantitative ability
Communicate effectively technical concepts to non-logistics staff
Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy
Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
This position requires occasional travel to health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.
