Job Summary   To strengthen safeguarding within SESIL and design actions to protect children and vulnerable adults in the target communities. To ensure SESIL’s interventions are inclusive, and have a strong focus on supporting girls. SESIL has a safeguarding duty of care to the communities we work with, to our staff, and partners. This includes people at risk in the community who are not necessarily direct beneficiaries but may be vulnerable to abuse. It is our responsibility to ensure that they have the right information on prevention of violence and taking actions by reporting to the LG authorities. The overall aim of the safeguarding role is to ensure that safeguarding is prioritized in all SESIL interventions and within all SESIL workplaces. Reporting Reporting to the Performance Improvement Lead through to the SESIL Senior Management Team and Senior Oversight Team. Working in close collaboration with the teams in the field, the Regional Coordinators, Community Engagement Lead CEL, and Consultants developing radio scripts and parents support materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Provide oversight and technical guidance on safeguarding within SESIL
Guide the team to monitor and implement actions that ensure inclusion and safety of learners in the CLL communities. This includes supporting SESIL field staff in building their capacity to create awareness to the various committees during their field visits.
Provide technical input during the design/review of materials to guide the CLL and community engagement activities, This includes information, education and communication materials, key health and safety messages for the radio lesson scripts and others based on programme needs.
Support the SESIL ambition to foster a positive and safe culture where staff, volunteers and consultants can Prevent, Report, Respond and Learn from safeguarding incidents.
Lead on development of content and facilitating safeguarding trainings for all SESIL and LG staff at the subcounty, as well as for CLL implementation committees. This will include guidelines for safeguarding champions and the CLFs.
Work with the RAL team to monitor inclusion of girls and CWD in SESIL interventions.
Liaise with SMT around design innovations to improve programme inclusion, especially in terms of accelerating results for girls.
Coordinate with the Gender Unit of the Ministry of Education and Sports to ensure the simplified versions of the Reporting, Tracking, Referral and Response RTRR are disseminated to the SESIL target communities.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and support on safeguarding to the SESIL team in the districts working with communities.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up to date documentation of all safeguarding incidents reported by staff and the regional safeguarding focal persons. Ensuring that the documents are only shared with appropriate authority.
Prepare monthly safeguarding log for SOT review and submission with Client reports
Lead on the response to all safeguarding incidents to ensure the safeguarding policies and protocols are implemented efficiently, effectively and sensitively.
Monitor and review the implementation of relevant polices, documentation and procedures to ensure they are adhered to, remain current and fit for purpose.
Develop additional information for Client / internally around SESIL safeguarding approach, contribution to girls’ education and inclusion more generally.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Development, Social Sciences, or related field.
Experience and proven technical knowledge and expertise in safeguarding, child protection and community engagement in developing country contexts, preferably including Uganda and in the education sector.
Experience in the development of training content for staff and community volunteers on safeguarding and developing key messages for community awareness sessions/dialogues.
Knowledge of local government community structures
Understanding of the Ugandan education, laws and policies that govern and protect children.
Excellent planning, reporting and risk management skills.
Good verbal communication skills, including speaking clearly and persuasively to individuals and groups; listening effectively and responding effectively.
Excellent IT skills and confidence in Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
