Job Summary The Registered midwife will be responsible for providing health education talks to women and their partners in the reproductive health facility and in the community. She will provide Antenatal, delivery, postpartum, post-natal care, family planning, immunisation services proper nutrition and shall maintain environment friendly working space hence adhering to infection control and prevention practices.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities  
Provide comprehensive MCH services to mothers during and after pregnancy, including managing complications and referring high risk pregnancies.
Delivering babies, preparing birth attestations and monitoring the general health condition of the mother and the new born.
Provide counselling to mothers on pregnancy and post-pregnancy management, including proper breastfeeding techniques.
Participate in PHC activities including health education, family planning, preparing for childbirth, and nutrition programs, as well as PMTCT activities at the health facility and within the community
Provide primary care to women of reproductive age in accordance with the Basic Package of Health Services
Provide all non-surgical methods of family planning
Ensure babies are immunized according to schedule
Monitor the consumption of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities and notify supervisor of re-stocking needs
Ensure biomedical equipment is in good working order by using in accordance with user manual and protocols, perform cleaning and minor maintenance and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning
Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria, including universal precautions, are met
Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and SMI Codes of Conduct
Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to schedule
Compilation of required reports
Provide regular feedback to the Clinical officer and/or Medical Officer on clinical care of patients.
Participate in the development and implementation of program work plans.
Compiling daily Ward reports and hand over to in-coming shift leader
Provide the full antenatal care package including screening tests at the facility and during community outreaches.
Identifying high-risk pregnancies and organizing appropriate referrals.
Provide information and linkage to elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV services.
Provide care during labour and puerperium with emphasis on prevention of infection and ensuring successful breastfeeding.
Participate in clinician ward rounds and provide bedside nursing care for admitted mothers
Provide post-natal care services for mother and baby including immunization, growth monitoring, support for breast-feeding and family planning.
Participate in any other activity as directed by supervisor.
Standards for professional conduct
Both the Professional and Organisation’s ethical code of conduct should be adhered to.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant for this role should hold a diploma in midwifery from a reputable training institution.
Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives’ council and have a valid practicing license.
At least two 2 years of prior professional experience in a similar post in a busy setting
Knowledge of professional midwifery principles, procedures and techniques
Knowledge of medical and non-medical waste disposal procedures
Knowledge of hygiene management and IPC protocols
Skilled in applying professional midwifery care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of patients
A good command of both written and spoken English
Excellent communication, leadership, customer service, interpersonal skills
Respect for and receptivity to other cultures.
Ability to develop a productive working relationship with team members
Ability to operate in a fast and diverse environment
Knowledge of local languages spoken in the area
Basic computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft elements
Good report writing skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to professional code of conduct
Ability to treat all patients and staff with respect, without prejudice
Ability to provide high quality, ethical, compassionate care that places the needs of the patient first
Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy
Ability to be flexible and manage stress
Ability to support SMI Calling and adhere to the SMI Code of Conduct

If you’re along the Northern by-pass, get a taxi to Kakiri still or one to Wakiso from where you’ll board another headed to Kakiri.
