development, and advocacy organization with operations in more than 20
countries. Food for the Hungry was founded in 1971 by Dr. Larry Ward. Food for
the Hungry's stated mission for long-term development is to graduate
communities of extreme poverty within 10–15 years. The organization does this
by going to some of the hardest places with an exit strategy, empowering local
leaders and walking "together" with them, as they lead their communities into
being thriving, self-sustainable places to live.
Job Summary The Regional Security Manager RSM is primarily responsible
for security management in the region. The RSM is responsible for providing
leadership on safety and security policy management and operational support to
enable the safest and most effective implementation of FH programs and
activities. The RSM will do this by facilitating and delivering high quality,
standards driven security risk management practices including training,
influencing all staff and response.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Track and support the implementation of FH’s minimum operating security
standards MOSS at the country-level
Perform regional threat reviews, risk assessments and analysis, and deliver solutions and recommendations to leaders.
Conduct risk assessments to support country offices as needed, with an emphasis on moderate and high-risk countries.
Ensure risk assessments for new project or emergency response locations are conducted accurately and timely using established processes.
Promote international travel security standards to and from the region, and ensure countries are knowledgeable and can execute travel security standards.
Ensure operational plans and budgets reflect responsibilities for staff management, training, support, security and well-being. This may include reviewing grant proposals and evaluating security needs for safe implementation.
Training and Influence
Ensure regions / country offices receive training support for their staff in order to help meet our duty of care and minimum security standards.
Support the regions and countries in delivering in-person trainings where there is limited or no local capacity to do so.
This is toward the goal of mainstreaming / integrating security management into all project designs, country strategies and departmental processes.
Provide technical direction, advice, and support to the RDs, CDs and others on security issues and its likely impact to programs and people.
Promote recognition and teamwork to retain country-level security managers and focal points.
Active participation and regular coordination with the regional senior leadership team.
Threat and Incident Management
Ensure threats / incidents that could potentially impact regional operations or personnel are being formally communicated and escalated to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner, and conduct incidence analysis and share the information with country leadership and the Security Department.
Conduct yearly drills and scenario exercises to build incident response capacities in the field.
Support the Security Department and regional leaders with incident response, reporting and post incident action and follow-up.
The ideal candidate for the Food for the Hungry job placement must hold a University degree in a related field with at least five 5 years of working experience in security management with an International Non-Governmental Organization or other international organization and 1 one year in a high-risk environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Project management desired.
Excellent people skills including warmth and sensitivity, conversational, able to relate to and effectively communicate with people from different cultures at various levels within the organization.
Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and non-business hours.
Ability to manage large-scale demanding and dynamic projects.
Experience developing and implementing security risk management standards in NGOs.
Excellent planning, coordination, and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
Demonstrated computer-operating skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Google platform, and virtual technologies such as Skype and/or other virtual meeting software.
Competency in field-based communications systems such as HF Codan, Motorola VHF, Thuraya, satellite and incident mapping platforms desired.
Ability to travel up to 50% of time per year in the US and internationally, to insecure countries or locations.
