Job Advert Nutrition Officer

About the Role
GOAL is seeking to hire a passionate individual to work as a Nutrition
Officer in Agago District to support the implementation of our preventative
and treatment-oriented nutrition portfolio. They will participate in the
implementation of activities related to GOAL’s Nutrition Impact and Positive
Practices methodology NIPP, our food and nutrition security integration
project and our improving maternal and newborn health project. The Nutrition
Officers, together with sub-country and district stakeholders and volunteers,
will provide technical support to the project beneficiaries to contribute to
the reduction of malnutrition and the realisation of positive nutrition
outcomes for the projects. The Nutrition Officers will be responsible for
ensuring project activities are achieved within agreed timeframes, budgets and
according to GOAL’s standards and donor regulations. They will manage project
volunteers, VHTs, health Assistants and contribute to robust process and
impact monitoring and support the adaptive management of complex projects.
The Nutrition Officers will also support any humanitarian or emergency
response activities that may arise, including those related to supporting
prevention and preparedness efforts for COVID-19.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need
Minimum two years working experience of community nutrition with a strong focus on social behavior change-related activities.
Possession of a riding permit Class A and ability to ride a motorcycle.
Strong computer literacy with a full knowledge of office applications.
Confident presentation and facilitation skills, proven record in provision of trainings.
Experience in and ability to work in rural settings.


Key Duties and Responsibilities
P roject Implementation
Support the identification and training of nutrition volunteers, VHTs,
Health Assistants, nutrition project participants or nutrition partners,
sometimes with the support and input of community leaders and local
authorities. Trainings might include home gardening, cooking demonstrations,
tippy-tap and latrine construction and use, fuel-efficient stoves, food
processing, preservation and storage techniques, and agricultural best-
practice, based on identified community needs, and COVID 19 related trainings.
Manage and oversee nutrition volunteers, VHTs, and Health Assistants where
relevant, ensuring quality and timely implementation project activities as per
the project activity plan.
Participate in project planning, including developing workplans, submitting
funds requests, procurement of project supplies and equipment and development
of activity budgets.
Contribute to the development of nutrition materials, including training
curriculums and materials and guidance notes.
Refine existing and/or develop as required, multisectoral IEC materials
across health, nutrition, livelihoods, sanitation, and hygiene sectors for use
by nutrition volunteers or nutrition partners.
Create linkages between health, nutrition, and livelihoods projects,
working with and contributing to projects and activities under the Livelihoods
Portfolio
Support the implementation of emergency and humanitarian response
activities as they arise such as COVID-19.
Project monitoring and learning
Ensure consistent and accurate records are taken and kept for all project participants, VHTs and Health Assistants in the project monitoring tools as required.
Prepare weekly planning and updates to share with the Nutrition Programme Manager.
Prepare periodical reports update indicators, achievements, activities and results according to the project log frame.
Meet with community leaders to explain project objectives and keep them appraised of projects activities being implemented in the target area.
Coordinate volunteers, VHT and Health Assistants review meetings.
Participate in and attend local, parish, sub-county or district meetings and events as assigned.
Comply with GOAL’s policies and procedures with respect to safeguarding, Code of Conduct, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality, do no harm principles and unacceptable behaviour protocols.
Report any concerns about inappropriate behaviour of a GOAL staff or partner.

Children and vulnerable adults a must be safeguarded to the maximum extent
from deliberate or inadvertent actions and failings that place them at risk of
abuse, sexual exploitation, injury and any other harm. One of the ways that

GOAL

vulnerable communities. Currently operating in 13 of the world’s most

General description of the country programme
First operational in Uganda in 1979, the current GOAL Uganda country programme
focuses on Health including WASH, Health Accountability and Nutrition
programming; and a market based systems approach to improving agricultural
livelihoods and WASH. GOAL Uganda mainstreams gender, child protection, social
behaviour change and resilience strategies across all programming. GOAL works
on a district focused approach and uses a mixture of direct implementation and
partnerships with national and international civil society organizations,
local government, the private sector and communities to give effect to our
mission.

GOAL Uganda has a skilled team of approximately 100 personnel and manages an
annual operating budget of approximately €8.7 million 2018. GOAL is
currently operational in the North, South, East and West of Uganda with six
established offices in Kampala, Lira, Bugiri, Abim, Kaabong and Agago
Districts. GOAL Uganda country programme is funded by a number of donors who
include Mastercard, charity water, Irish Aid and some small foundations.

equivalent to one month for each completed year of service and our working
