About Project
Population Services International PSI and Kampala Capital City Authority
KCCA are implementing a three year grant for an implementation science
project The MaNe project funded by the United States Agency for
International Development USAID. The project is implemented in the slum
communities and informal settlements in the divisions of Rubaga and Makindye
in Kampala city. The project initiates and tests innovative interventions/
approaches to address the demand and supply side barriers affecting illness
recognition, care seeking, effective referral and provision of quality care
equitably for better MNH outcomes in urban slum settings in Kampala city.

Job Summary We are looking for a suitable candidate to take on the
temporary role with possibility of extension of Social Behavioral Change
Communication SBCC Coordinator for the MaNe Project. The SBCC coordinator
will lead implementation of demand creation interventions for innovations in
accredited private for-profit clinics, Respectful Maternal and newborn care
RMNC interventions in public health facilities as well as innovations to
improve access to emergency medical services such as the medical call center
and availability of ambulance transport.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Steer the execution of the demand creation interventions as stipulated in
the MaNe project work plan.
Prepare and implement demand creation guidelines and standards in line with
PSI and donor standards.
Implementation of targeted home visits and work-place sensitization in high
congregation places through local entertainment, CHWs, peer educators.
Implement Monthly phone calls & text messages to mothers & spouses about
birth preparedness and available MNH options innovated by the MaNe project.
Prepare creative briefs for the development of target appropriate IEC and
BCC materials for the MaNe project.
Leverage material development; awareness creation by CHWs, health
providers, and peer educations; and social media channels to reach to the
pregnant women mapped in Lubaga and Makindye.
Develop, execute and track SBCC budgets for behavioral change communication
activities aimed at creating demand for the Maternal and Newborn services in
line with the project strategies.
Liaise with health facilities, community and project team to document and
disseminate key learnings from the demand creation activities implemented
under the MaNe project.
Collaborate with opinion leaders, target audience social networks to
develop, test, refine and scale-up appropriate SBCC strategies based on
evidence.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social humanities e.g.
Social sciences, Social Works, Development studies, Communication.
Experience of at least 3 years in development and implementation of SBCC
systems preferably in health.
Computer literacy in Microsoft office Suite and report writing
Ability to engage communities in designing and implementing a program with
an opportunity for flexibility.
Ability to communicate effectively with good communication skills
Analytical and result-oriented
Customer focused with good interpersonal skills to engage with people at
all levels – government, donor and community.
Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
Ability to be innovative and moving with current social trends
.
