WASH Technical Officer

Job Summary ⇒ GOAL is currently seeking to hire a competent person to join
our Uganda team. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join an extremely
dynamic International NGO and to use your skills. If you are familiar with
working within the international development aid sector and have a strong
background in the areas mentioned, then you are the one we are looking for!
The WASH technical officer will work in a team context to complete engineering
designs and drawings, estimates and technical specifications of project
outputs. The position will also support the procurement of works as well as
the supervision and certification of the works.
Note that this position is contingent on funding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise new borehole siting and construction
⇗ Work with the contractor’s hydrologist
⇗ Recommend successful completion of wells
⇗ Ensure boreholes of specified diameter are drilled
⇗ Ensure sufficient and specified gravel is used
⇗ Ensure proper well development and that wells are successful
⇗ Ensure that suitable villages are selected to benefit from renovations of existing boreholes according to set criteria
⇗ Supervise renovations of existing boreholes
Research, Design, and Implementation
⇗ Participate in project/sub-project research activities as may be required
⇗ Participate in baseline and end line data collection on project interventions
⇗ Conduct frequent field-level monitoring and provide feedback to the WASH programme manager
⇗ Collect and document all snags on the works and ensure their rectification during the defects period
⇗ To ensure that there is an accurate list of all GOAL-funded water points
⇗ A suitable qualification in civil engineering OTD, HTD in building and civil engineering, Water Engineering, or related discipline. Experience may substitute for qualifications, but not the other way round.
⇗ Demonstrated experience repairing/renovating boreholes
⇗ Knowledge of the following community-based approaches is an added advantage; CLTS, Sanitation marketing, Hand Pump Mechanics Associations
⇗ Basic knowledge of potable water tests
⇗ Experience working with international organisations and international NGOs
⇗ Possession of a riding permit Class A and Ability to ride a motorcycle is required for this job
