Trees for the Future Inc. TREES is a nonprofit organization providing
technical training and supplies for farmers in East and West Africa to end
hunger through the Forest Garden Approach. Nearly a billion people live in
extreme poverty and earn less than $1/day. Most of them are subsistence
farmers whose farming practices have led to the deforestation of their land
and the degradation of their local and global environment. Trees for the
Future TREES is ending deforestation, hunger and extreme poverty for farmers
in developing nations. Through our “Forest Garden Approach,” we train farmers
to plant and manage Forest Gardens that sustainably feed families and raise
their incomes by 400%.
Job Summary The Human Resources Assistant mainly provides vital executive
support in administration, talent management, communications and operations.
S/he will also bring initiative and be a true team player. S/he must be able
to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
This is a full-time, exempt opportunity. This position reports directly to the
Director of Human Resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The job holder will assist in the recruitment process by scheduling and
screening candidates, assist with creating offer letters, new hire packets and
background checks, assist in orienting new employees to the organization and
is the point person to filter employee questions to the HR Director.
In addition, will create, maintain, and organize electronically employee
files and appropriate documents, process all hires, transfers, changes, and
terminations accurately into HRIS in a timely manner; provide clerical support
for the HR Director including departmental filing, answering the phone, travel
arrangements, and other miscellaneous duties.
He/she will perform HR file audits to ensure that all required documents
are collected and are maintained in employee files, keep files of performance
appraisal information, grievance, or corrective action up to date.
Last but not least act as an advocate for employees and convey employee
issues and concerns to management for resolution, help plan and oversee
employee recognition events.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/education
At least three years of experience in Human Resources, Proficiency in
Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Strong writing, proofreading, and formatting skills
The ideal candidate must have worked in an administrative support role to
an executive level officer in a busy environment. In order to succeed at this
position, the candidate will be flexible, open to change, a learner, have a
positive attitude, be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, have high
standards, possess excellent people skills, and be willing to take initiatives
and problem solve.
Candidates need to be an excellent writer and thrive in a high-
communication environment.
Ability to think inter-departmentally and anticipate needs
Comfortable navigating among leadership and decision-makers
Experience with nonprofit operations
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and
diplomatically with a culturally diverse domestic and international team
Ability to cooperate effectively and harmoniously with all stakeholders
including internal departments/leadership, project partners, and external
organizations
Extremely flexible and excellent time management, organizational, and
scheduling skills
Ability to build, foster, and maintain positive professional relationships.
