The Grassroots Reconciliation Group GRG is a U.S. founded non-profit
organization that runs innovative peacebuilding and livelihood projects for
the reintegration of former combatants of the Lord’s Resistance Army LRA and
child soldiers. We are looking for a proven project manager with field
experience and visionary ideas and who can take the lead in growing the
organization. GRG projects bring together former combatants and local
community members to plan their own paths to reintegration and reconciliation.
This involves a broad range of locally designed interventions, including
livelihoods, agriculture, microfinance, trauma counseling and support,
community theater, and peacebuilding activities.
Job Summary ⇒ The Grassroots Reconciliation Group GRG is looking for an
intern/volunteer to join our team in northern Uganda. GRG runs innovative
projects that seek to rebuild lives and promote reconciliation among war-
affected communities including refugees. This involves a broad range of
locally designed and culturally appropriate interventions, such as
livelihoods, microfinance, trauma counseling, community theatre, and
reconciliation activities. Working closely with our beneficiaries, GRG
provides the overall guidance as beneficiaries work hand-in-hand to achieve
group and individual goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities ⇒
⇗ Conducting research on fundraising prospects and grant opportunities.
⇗ Drafting grant proposals for foundation and other donor grants.
⇗ Running online fundraising campaigns through social media and crowdfunding
sites.
⇗ Assisting in monitoring and evaluation of projects and maintaining the
database.
⇗ Supporting GRG’s communication strategy through documentation, photo,
video, website/blog updates, newsletters, and engagement of different
stakeholders.
⇗ Any other duties delegated to the intern/volunteer by the immediate
supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience ⇒
⇗ If a candidate has particular skills agriculture, psychology,
microfinance, etc., GRG would be very happy to develop a placement making
maximum use of these skills and interests both in the field and at the office.
⇗ There will also be a time where the Intern can work on his or her own
research projects.
⇗ This Internship is mainly aimed at graduate students and/or professionals
with a background in conflict resolution, peace studies, psychology, or
international development, with a flair for social media and fundraising.
⇗ The applicant must hold a Degree in international development, peace and
conflict studies, psychology, or a related field;
⇗ Knowledge of sustainable development and conflict resolution;
⇗ Good cross-cultural communication skills;
⇗ Good writing and research skills;
⇗ Skills and experience in grant writing;
⇗ Web design/update and multi-media skills a plus, including blogging and
social media marketing;
⇗ Knowledge of northern Uganda and South Sudan a plus;
⇗ Previous volunteer experience in developing or post-conflict context a
plus.
NB The internship is unpaid interns from abroad will be expected to cover
their own flights and living costs, but provides excellent field experience
at a peace-building NGO in a post-conflict setting in Africa. The Program
Director will provide close mentoring and professional development support.
Duration for Internship 6 months starting Late-February or early March 2021.
However, alternative proposals including different start dates or altered
duration may be considered for exceptional candidates to be based in Gulu,
northern Uganda.
