Job Summary The Project Assistant – Alternative Care will provide
grassroot support to caseworkers during case management, case plan
implementation, monitoring and documentation of Unaccompanied & Separated
children in alternative care, generate reports in different forms and share
data as per the information sharing protocol and assumes the responsibilities
given under the purpose in accordance with a well-defined framework of
policies and procedures under immediate supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Management;
Oversees the alternative care processes for children at risk in the
settlement ensuring that it builds on existing systems for the care of
children
Coordinates especially with the case management team to ensure that as
needed, children have access to appropriate alternative care to ensure that
they are protected from violence, exploitation, discrimination, abuse and
neglect
Maintain a detailed updated register of alternative care providers to
support timely placement of children at risk as needed
Monitor alternative care arrangement closely with case workers to ensure
its continued appropriateness for children
Responsible for reporting on alternative care for children in the
settlement
Manage the use, maintenance and technical support of alternative care
databases, overseeing data collection, entry and verification.
Generate and submit all standard reports including all weekly reports and
statistical data reports to the Senior Child protection Officer.
Review alternative care case reports and monitoring statistics with the
Senior Child Protection Officer; setting for case follow-ups, closure and
identifying gaps as appropriate.
Analyse and respond to internal and external reporting requests in
accordance to LWF procedures.
Ensure confidentiality of all information for children and their
alternative care providers
Technical and Capacity Building;
Undertake capacity building for staff and community on alternative care
Train staff and partners in alternative care and child protection.
Support other response staff on unaccompanied and separated children in
relation to service provision for alternative care within the refugee
operation.
Support the Senior Child Protection officer and M&E Assistant in
establishing and maintaining a Monitoring and Evaluation system relating to
alternative care.
Ensure that all technical information pertinent to alternative care is
obtained, documented and disseminated to staff as required.
Enhance synergies within the communities to achieve integration and
attainment of regional objectives.
Establish and liaise closely with partner agencies regarding documentation
of unaccompanied and separated children in alternative care to ensure and
promote a coordinated approach to case management.
Case management
Participate in weekly supervision meetings with all caseworkers, providing
technical advice on alternative care arrangement and psychosocial support to
caseworkers. Support individual cases where required and provide regular
monitoring of all aspects of case management services.
Ensure staff gaps and training needs do not result in gaps in support to
individuals in case management, and address such issues with senior management
Review staff alternative care caseloads to ensure they are manageable and
share challenges with Senior Child Protection Officer.
Monitor timescales for response, decision-making, placement, follow-up and
review of cases in alternative care.
Ensure access to material and further technical support and set eligibility
criteria for material and other support.
Review and analyse trends in the alternative caseload to inform programming
Conduct regular case file audit and check that protocols and principles are
respected.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate for the LWF World Service Project Assistant –
Alternative Care job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social work,
Social Sciences, Development studies or any related fields.
At least two years of experience in child protection case management with a
specific focus in alternative care for children.
Must have a sound track record of working with children no criminal
record.
Experience in working with Persons of Concern children and communities.
Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication
skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills.
Must be willing to ride a motorcycle and possess a valid riding permit.
Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure, enjoys
working in the field and previous work in nutrition or health related
intervention is an added advantage.
Able to adhere to set security standards.
